The personal information we collect about you, and how we use it, will vary depending on which Sites you visit, and what you do while on those sites. Some of our Sites allow you to fill out forms and provide us with personal information directly, such as Citizenshipworks, LawHelp Interactive, Reclamo, and Houston Immigration Network). Others are more informational and do not collect as much personal information from you when you browse, such as Immi, Immigration Advocates Network, Immigration Law Help, and Scale Justice.
In order to create an account and receive or provide information or services through some of the Sites, such as Citizenshipworks, LawHelp Interactive, Reclamo, and Houston Immigration Network, you may be required to provide your name, physical address, and email address or phone number, and you may need to upload documents and other information as your particular case requires. This information is saved by SJN, and any volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit partner organization who advises you will have access to this information. Additionally, on some of our Sites, such as Immi, Immigration Advocates Network, Ready to Stay, Reclamo.AI, and Houston Immigration Network, you may upload materials intended for publication which may be viewed publicly. Information associated with materials uploaded for publication (such as author name, publication title, and publication contents) is also saved by SJN.
SJN uses cookies and analytic services to automatically collect information about your device, your location, and your browsing activity. This automatically collected information allows us to provide you better service. For information on how to opt out, visit here.

Depending on your use of the Sites, we may collect different personal information about you. If you wish to use the services provided on some of the Sites, such as Citizenshipworks, LawHelp Interactive, and Reclamo, you must first create an account with us. If you agree to create an account, you may be required to enter the following information:

Email Address and/or Mobile Number
Prior to creating an account, depending on the Site, you may be asked a series of general questions to determine whether you meet some of the basic eligibility criteria. You may be required to provide your name or contact information in this step, and any information you provide at this step will not be associated with you if you do not proceed to create an account. Information required could include some or all of the following personal information about you:
Date of birth and age
Gender
Country of birth and nationality
Current immigration status
Marital status
Military service
Employment and education history
Family history
Race and ethnicity
Weight, height, hair color, and eye color
Disability status
Criminal history, and affiliations with political organizations
Depending on your use of the Sites, you may be asked to provide personal information that we need to provide our services, inform you about your current situation, identify benefits and relief that may be available to you, and help populate your legal forms or applications, such as on Citizenshipworks, LawHelp Interactive, Reclamo, and Houston Immigration Network. This could include some or all of the following personal information about you, your spouse, and/or your children:

Date of birth and age
Gender
Country of birth and nationality
Zip code
Residency status
Marital status and history
Military service
Employment and education history
Details and information about your employment, such as your hours and pay
Alien registration number
Social Security number
Contact information, including mailing address, phone number, and email address
Previous residential addresses

Race and ethnicity

Medical information, such as the use of sick leave
Union affiliation
Additional information required by your legal forms or applications, including your mental health history, any criminal history, and affiliations with political organizations
Supporting documentation required by your legal forms or applications which may include personal information, such as a copy of your passport

Any other information you might share
Additionally, you may upload documents onto some of the Sites, such as Citizenshipworks, LawHelp Interactive, Reclamo, Ready to Stay, and Houston Immigration Network, which may in some cases be viewed by your volunteer attorney, nonprofit partner organization staff and administrators, or other advocates (volunteers who provide support but are not lawyers, such as accredited representatives, workshop coordinators, or community advocates). Your volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit partner organization administrator may also upload documents containing your personal information. These documents are also saved by SJN.
You may communicate with a volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit partner organization staff member using a Site's communication system. The contents of these communications are not saved by the Site, but the volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit partner organization may retain a copy of this communication in your client file (outside of SJN).
Some of the Sites, such as Immpath.AI, use artificial intelligence to extract information from documents that you provide, such as a Notice to Appear. The artificial intelligence model that we use does not store or use your data for re-training. On some of the Sites, such as Reclamo.AI, you may also be able to interact with an artificial intelligence chatbot. Any personally identifiable data that you upload to an artificial intelligence chatbot contained on one of the Sites will be deleted from our system as soon as it is no longer necessary to provide services, and will not be used for re-training. Our artificial intelligence chatbots will not process personal data beyond the data that you provide to the chatbots directly.
You may upload material for publication onto some of the Sites, such as Ready to Stay, which are intended to and will be made available to the public. Consistent with our Terms of Use, material uploaded for publication may be used to develop, train, or fine tune artificial intelligence models. Information associated with material uploaded for publication (such as author name, publication title, and publication contents) is also saved by SJN.

If you wish to use the services provided by some of our Sites as a volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit partner organization staff member, you may be required to create an account with us and provide the following information:
First and Last Name
Email Address and/or Mobile Number
Organization Name
You may upload documents onto a Site in connection with a particular client who has agreed to use the Site's services. Those documents may be viewed by that client.
You may communicate with a particular client using a Site's messaging system or videoconferencing system. The contents of these communications are not saved by the Site, so we encourage saving these notes to document any advice given.
Our Sites may collect information that helps us serve you and lets you use certain features of our services. To do this, we may use cookies, web server logs, web beacons, and JavaScript.
Cookies: Our Sites may use internet cookies, web beacons, HTML5, Flash cookies, or similar technologies. These allow us to identify your browser and remember your information, settings, and your visits at a Site. We may also use other types of local storage, such as browser- or plugin-based local storage. Most browsers give you the option of enabling, restricting, and disabling cookies.
Note: If you disable cookies, you will not be able to use all the features of some of our services. For example, cookies are required for the system to remember you for purposes of completing applications or forms and remember the information you provided before.
Our Sites:
Collect information about your device, operating system, browser, access domain, and other system settings;
Identify your system's language and your country and time zone;
Collect information about your current location; and
Record the page that referred you to one of our Sites, your device's IP address, and the pages you visit at our Sites.
We may place tags (web beacons) on our pages. We may also send software instructions to your device that collect details of your interactions with our Sites, such as the kind of general information listed above.
Analytics: We may use analytic services from other companies, such as Google Analytics, to learn how visitors use some of our Sites. These services will know your IP address or similar identifiers for our mobile applications, and they share information with us about how you use our Sites.Your usage information helps us to:
Troubleshoot any problems on the Sites;
Understand usage of the Sites and improve them; and
Meet our legal duties and comply with policies and procedures.
California Do Not Track Disclosure: Other than recording the page that referred you to our sites, we do not track you over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising and therefore the Sites do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. However, some third-party services do keep track of your browsing activities over time and across third party websites when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you.
Nonprofit Partner Organization Staff Members, Advocates, and Volunteer Attorneys
We have partnered with nonprofit organizations that may be able to provide not-for-profit or reduced fee legal or other assistance to you through some of our Sites, including Citizenshipworks, LawHelp Interactive, Reclamo, and Houston Immigration Network. Depending on your use of the Sites, a nonprofit partner organization can sometimes assign a pro bono or volunteer attorney or advocate to you. The volunteer attorney, advocate, and/or nonprofit partner organization may have access to your personal information, any information you choose to share with the volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit organization, and any information or documents you upload or provide through our Sites, including your username and contact information, the responses you provide through our Sites, and the results of questionnaires hosted on our Sites.
Nonprofit partner organizations’ privacy practices may be different from ours and will apply to their use of your personal information. We are not responsible for how a nonprofit partner organization, advocate, or volunteer attorney uses your information.
If you have questions with respect to a nonprofit partner organizations’ privacy practices, please contact them. By using the services of a nonprofit partner organization, you agree that the organization may contact you via email or text message. If you work on an application through a nonprofit partner organizations’ portal page or enroll in a campaign with a nonprofit partner organization, then you are agreeing to the nonprofit partner organization’s terms and privacy policy; that the nonprofit partner organization may have access to some or all of the information you provided, and that the nonprofit partner organization will be able to contact you via email or text message.
If you are a volunteer attorney, advocate, or nonprofit partner organization staff member:
Your personal information, any documents you upload for a client, or information you share with a client through a Site may be accessible to that particular client. We are not responsible for how your client uses your information.
Service Providers
We use a number of outside service providers, such as cloud storage providers who store the information we collect, software developers we hire to debug or improve our program, and providers who support certain features of our services that allow us to communicate with you (such as automated SMS text message providers, email service providers, and live chat providers) and payment or credit card processors. These outside service providers may have limited access to your personal information to the extent necessary to provide their services. All of these service providers may only use or disclose your personal information to provide services to us or comply with legal requirements.
Researchers / Data Analysts
We may share personal information for research, academic studies, data analysis, and reports. Depending on your use of some of the Sites, such as Citizenshipworks, Immi, LawHelp Interactive, Reclamo/ReclamoAI, Ready to Stay, and Houston Immigration Network, we may also share information for legal advocacy and reform efforts. Information shared for any of these purposes is always anonymized, and where appropriate aggregated. That means none of the information is linked to you or any other particular person. For example, the data we share may be used to say how many users (not the names of) live in New York. We may also share with others how many people (not who) visited one of our Sites. We do not share information from small categories of specific information that contain fewer than 5 people or specific categories of personal information, such as names, Social Security numbers, and login and access details.
Funders
We may share information about our users to our non-profit funders for research purposes. Information shared for these purposes is not personally identifiable. We do not share information from specific categories of personal information, such as names, Social Security numbers, and login and access details.
We may share your personal information if we believe we need to:
In order to enforce our Terms of Use;
In order to protect our rights, operations, or users;
When required to comply with applicable law, regulations, or legal processes such as court orders or subpoenas;
When required to respond to an official request, subpoena, warrant, or order from a government agency, such as law enforcement; or
In order to prevent physical, financial, or other harm, or injury or loss to any individual or SJN.
If our organizational structure changes - If we sell or transfer some or all of our business or assets, such as during a reorganization, dissolution, or liquidation, we may transfer your personal information to a third party. But that third party must treat your personal information according to the terms of this Notice.
If you are accessing one of our Sites using an account that you created, you may change your personal information on the profile page for your account.
For Sites where you create an account, if you do not access your account for 180 days, your account and any information you have entered may be deleted. However, a nonprofit partner organization may still have access to your information even after your account has been closed. You may also request that we close your account on one of our Sites by contacting us at privacy@scalejustice.org using the email address you used to register. If you registered using a mobile phone number, you may send your request by first-class mail, return receipt requested, to the following address: 228 Park Ave S, PMB 90360, New York, NY 10003-1502.
You may request that we delete additional information by contacting us at privacy@scalejustice.org. We will endeavor to honor such requests where appropriate.
We have administrative, software, and physical safeguards to protect the personal information you provide at our Sites against accidental, unauthorized, or illegal access, disclosure, destruction, loss, change, and other illegal use. To protect Social Security numbers, we limit who may access SSNs and only allow disclosure for legally allowed purposes. Nevertheless, although we take reasonable precautions to protect your information, please be advised we cannot guarantee the safety of your information. We shall have no liability for any loss or damage that results from interception and/or unauthorized use by third parties of any information on the Sites.
Some of our Sites list links to other websites that are not part of our organization. We list those links to make it easier for you to get information at those websites. We may not have control over the content or privacy policies at those websites. It's a good idea to look at the Privacy Notices of those websites before you use them.
If we change our privacy policies, we will post a notice on our Sites. The date of the change will appear at the top of the Privacy Notice.
